Overview

Agriculture at the undergraduate level, primarily the B.Sc. (Hons) Agriculture, is a professional degree that applies scientific and technical knowledge to improve farming, livestock management, and agribusiness. In India, it is a highly regulated field overseen by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). 

 

Course Overview & Level

  • Level: Undergraduate (UG) professional degree.
  • Common Degrees: B.Sc. (Hons) Agriculture, B.Tech Agricultural Engineering, and B.Sc. Horticulture.
  • Focus: The program balances classroom theory with mandatory field-based learning, including rural exposure and industrial attachments. 
          • Duration & Eligibility
            • Duration: 4 years, divided into 8 semesters.
            • Eligibility:
            • Completion of 10+2(Class 12) from the Science stream.
            • Mandatory subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and either Biology, Mathematics, or Agriculture.
            • Minimum aggregate: Usually 50% to 60%(with relaxations for reserved categories).
            • Entrance Exams: Admission is often through competitive exams like CUET (ICAR-UG), ICAR AIEEA, or state-level tests (e.g., MHT CET, KEAM).

            • Plant Sciences: Agronomy, Horticulture, Genetics & Plant Breeding, and Plant Pathology.

            • Private Universities: Generally range from ₹80,000 to ₹2 Lakh per year. Some premium institutions like LPU or Amity University may have higher fees reaching up to ₹9.6 Lakh for the full course.
