Hospitality Management at the undergraduate level focuses on managing services in hotels, restaurants, travel, and events, emphasizing customer satisfaction and operational excellence. 

 

Course Overview & Level

  • Level: Undergraduate (UG) degree.
  • Common Degrees: Bachelor of Hotel Management (BHM), B.Sc. in Hospitality and Hotel Administration (Sc. HHA), BBA in Hospitality, and Bachelor of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (BHMCT). 

Duration & Eligibility

  • Duration: Typically 3 to 4 yearsfor degree programs, while diplomas range from 1 to 2 years.
  • Eligibility:
  • Completion of 10+2(Class 12) from any stream (Science, Commerce, or Arts).
  • Minimum aggregate marks usually between 45% to 50%.
  • Englishis often a mandatory subject.
  • Entrance Exams: Common exams include NCHMCT JEE, CUET-UG, AIMA UGAT, and IIHM eCHAT. 

  • Core Subjects

    The curriculum combines theoretical knowledge with extensive hands-on laboratory work. 

    • Operational Cores: Food Production (Culinary), Food & Beverage Service, Front Office Operations, and Accommodation Operations (Housekeeping).
    • Management & Business: Hospitality Accounting, Human Resource Management, Marketing & Sales, Hospitality Law, and Financial Management.
    • Allied Subjects: Tourism Management, Event Management, Food Science & Nutrition, and Foreign Languages (often French). 

    Course Fees

    • Private Institutes: Range from ₹1.2 Lakh to ₹4 Lakh per year, with total program costs potentially reaching ₹15 Lakhat premium universities.

    Graduates can work in hotels, airlines, cruise lines, and event firms. 

    • Job Roles: Hotel Manager, Executive Chef, Front Office Manager, Cruise Director, Cabin Crew, and Event Planner.
    • Starting Salary: Generally ₹2.5 LPA to ₹6 LPAfor entry-level roles in India.
    • Mid-to-Senior Level: Experienced professionals can earn ₹10 LPA to ₹25 LPA+, especially in luxury chains or international roles.
